The Brands Getting Packaging Right — and Why It Matters

Behind the Packaging  ·  Brand Stories  ·  Sustainability

The brands getting packaging right, the materials behind every product, and why it all starts with a single cup.

When you pick up a cup of cold brew from your favourite local café, the last thing on your mind is probably the cup itself. But that small vessel is exactly why MOSS exists — we started because we knew there had to be a better answer to single-use packaging, and we believe closing the gap between society and real, modern sustainability doesn't have to be hard. It just has to start somewhere. Today, we want to share some of those stories — starting with what's actually inside the packaging you're holding.

What MOSS Packaging Is Made Of

Our products are made from rapidly regenerating, plant-based materials such as sugarcane bagasse, FSC-certified paper, and PolyLactic Acid (PLA), a compostable material derived from cornstarch. No harmful plastic linings. No materials that will outlive your grandchildren. And because we know that claims without proof don't mean much — every MOSS product carries the certifications to back it up. FSC certified, FDA certified, TÜV Austria certified compostable. Name it, we have it.

Anti-Leak

Anti-Leak Bagasse Food Containers

Made from sugarcane bagasse — a byproduct of sugar production — these containers are certified home compostable and break down in around 180 days. Leak-proof, sturdy, and planet-friendly.

Compostable Cups

Kraft Paper Cups — PLA-Lined

FSC-certified kraft paper with a PLA lining instead of plastic. Certified industrially compostable, fully customisable, and built to hold up whether you're serving hot or cold.

Compostable Cups

Kraft Paper Cups — Aqueous-Lined

Aqueous simply means water-based — and that's exactly what lines this cup instead of plastic. Compostable and food-safe.

ⓘ Custom printing not recommended — aqueous surface is more delicate.

Filipino Brands Doing It Right

Sustainable packaging only works when businesses actually use it — consistently, intentionally, across the board. These two partners have done exactly that, and in very different ways.

Unit 605 Café

Local café  ·  3 branches

Unit 605 began in 2022 in a Parañaque condo — literally Unit 605 — where two people brewing cold brew for friends quietly built something they never planned for. Today they have three branches, a devoted community, and a café ethos centred on warmth, low-acid coffee, and doing things the right way.

We've worked with Unit 605 for years. What stands out isn't just that they chose sustainable packaging, it's that they've never wavered. Across all three branches, sustainability is part of every customer experience, with every take-out served in plant-based packaging.

"It's important for us to partner with a supplier who shares our values, and MOSS makes it easy for us to align our packaging with our environmental goals."

Their customers have noticed too. People reach out to say they appreciate it, which honestly says a lot about the kind of community Unit 605 has built around them.

Watching Unit 605 grow from a single fridge in a condo to three branches without ever compromising on this is the kind of thing that reminds us why we started MOSS in the first place.

Holiday Inn

International hospitality  ·  Philippine properties

Holiday Inn needs no introduction. What does deserve one, though, is their decision to make the switch to sustainable packaging — because at the scale a brand like Holiday Inn operates, that choice carries real weight.

We love this partnership because it proves something important: sustainability isn't just for small, indie businesses with the freedom to move fast. Large corporations have the same responsibility — and arguably a bigger one, given their footprint. Every sustainable cup that goes out at a Holiday Inn property is a cup that doesn't contribute to the problem. Multiply that across hundreds of guests a day, and the impact is real.

We genuinely believe every large corporation should be moving in this direction. Not as a marketing exercise, but as a baseline standard of doing business responsibly. Holiday Inn is showing that it's possible — and we hope the hospitality industry takes notice.

One Cup at a Time

Whether you're running a three-branch café or an international hotel chain, the packaging decision is the same: take the easy route, or take the right one.

MOSS exists to make the right one easier. Our products are fully certified, they hold up in real use, and they won't compromise your brand presentation. What they will do is give you something to stand behind — and give your customers a reason to appreciate every order just a little more.

If you're a business thinking about making the switch — or if you've already started and want to do more — we'd love to hear from you.
